Description

Fern Cottage is an early 16th-century house with a 20th-century extension at the left-hand end. The original structure is timber-framed and plastered, with mid-20th-century plaster panels on the facade. The extension is built of red brick, and the entire building is roofed with thatch. It has two storeys and three windows containing various casement windows. The asymmetrical front door is sheltered by a thatched gabled porch and has a mid-20th-century door. An internal stack is located at the end of the 16th-century range, while the extension has a gable-end stack. The interior of the original range features heavy, unchamfered joists at the right-hand end and a later inserted floor at the left-hand end. Two original diamond mullion windows remain, now blocked, along with mortices indicating the former positions of others.
