Description
Number 2, known as The Corner Shop, includes premises occupied by Dr R Grey (Optician) and Kay's Restaurant. This building dates back to the 17th century and has undergone some alterations. It is two storeys high and features three windows facing Blyburgate. The first-floor windows are sash with exposed frames, glazing bars, and flat arches. The exterior is made of painted brick, and the roof is steep and pantiled, hipped at the rounded corner. The ground floor has altered windows, and there is a six-panel door leading to the restaurant, which has panelled reveals and an eared doorcase with a pulvinated frieze and bracket pediment. The entrance to Dr Grey's premises is plain and extends to the rear onto Hungate. This part of the building is early 19th century, made of white brick, two storeys high, and has four near-flush-frame sash windows, now with only centre glazing bars. The roof is also pantiled. Inside the restaurant, there is a wide fireplace with a beam that has been somewhat altered.
