Description
The Retreat and Pin Cottage are a pair of houses located on South Green in Southwold, built around 1845 with later 19th-century bay windows. They are constructed of red brick and feature a pantile roof with a central ridge and end stacks.
Both houses are two stories tall and each has a two-window front with a central entrance. The Retreat (No.20) has a six-panelled door with glazed upper panels, flanked by 6/6 unhorned sash windows on either side, all of which have hoodmoulds supported by scrolled consoles. On the first floor, there are 6/6 unhorned sash windows set in flush frames.
Pin Cottage (No.22) features a half-glazed door beneath a hood on scrolled consoles, with canted bay windows on either side that contain 4/4 and 6/6 unhorned sash windows. The first floor also has 6/6 unhorned sash windows in flush frames. The interior has not been inspected.
