Description
This building, originally a lodging house and now four dwellings, was constructed around 1820 and altered in 1968. It is built of gault brick, with slate hipped roofs and brick stacks arranged irregularly.
The exterior is two and three storeys high, with a basement, and features a four-window front, including an advanced bay to the right and a recessed bay to the left. The central two bays are emphasized with a decorative front. Ground-floor French windows are set beneath stuccoed tympani, opening onto a balustraded balcony over the basement. The balcony has cast-iron railings with quatrefoil decoration. The first floor of the central section has two 2/2 sash windows in stuccoed surrounds. A flat, plain parapet partially hides the hipped roof. The advanced bay to the right includes a doorway in a return opening onto the balcony, with a 2/2 sash window to the basement and two similar windows to the ground floor, and one similar window to the first floor, all under stuccoed skewback arches. The recessed bay to the left rises to a third storey with a panelled door and a 2/2 sash window without glazing bars to each floor above. Platbands decorated with Greek key ornament run across each floor, returning at the ends. A plain parapet with ball finials at the corners conceals a low roof.
The interior, limited to the rear part, revealed no features of particular interest. The building was undergoing renovation at the time of the listing review.
