Description
Brook Farmhouse is a 16th-century farmhouse located on the north side of Dallinghoo Road in Wickham Market. It is timber framed, featuring colourwashed render and a pantile roof, which was originally thatched. The building has two storeys and follows a hall plan with a screens passage.
On the entrance front, there is a doorway on the left, aligned with the screens passage, and another door at the far right. Between these doors are two 3-light 19th-century casement windows and a 2-light casement window at the far left. On the first floor, beneath the eaves, there are two 3-light casements and one 2-light casement. The axial ridge stack, located to the right of centre, was rebuilt in the 19th century. The left gable end features a 4-light casement window on the ground floor and a 3-light window on the first floor.
Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered ceiling beams. The screens passage includes a 4-centered doorway leading to the present kitchen, which was originally a service room.
