Description

Post Office House is a house dating from the 16th century, with an 18th-century addition and 19th-century facades. It is timber framed, covered in colourwashed render, and has a plain tile roof that was originally thatched. The building is two storeys high with an attic.

The entrance front features 19th-century doors on either side of the centre, each with gabled porches that have decorative bargeboards and mace finials. Between these doors, and on either side, are four 19th-century cross windows with Tudor hood moulds. The first floor has similar windows, though they are shorter. At the near-centre gable, there is a single central light, along with drop finials and a mace finial. Massive chimney stacks with rectangular bases and sawtoothed flues are located at the ridge, with the left stack featuring a ball ornament and the right stack dating from the 19th century.

On the right-hand gable end, there is a single-storey flat-roofed shop at ground floor level. The left-hand gable end has cross windows on the ground and attic floors, with a decorative bressumer below the gable and drop and mace finials. The rear of the house has two doorways on the right and random fenestration.

Inside, there are chamfered ceiling beams and joists with stepped lamb's tongue end stops in one ground floor room. The walls feature close studding, two blocked windows, and chamfered beams on the first floor. Some rebuilding has occurred at one end, using pine beams.
