Description

DALLINGHOO SCHOOL ROAD TM 25 NE (West Side) 5/60 - Ridleys - II

House. Late C16. Timber-framed with colourwashed render and a plain tiled roof, perhaps originally thatched. Two storeys. Baffle-entry plan. Entrance front: 2 bays. Projecting central C18 or C19 gabled porch with a plank door having muntins and strap hinges. To either side of this are C19 or C20 two-light casements and there are 2 similar windows to the first floor. To the ridge at right of centre is a chimney stack of white bricks following the form of the late C16 stack having a rectangular base, above which are 2 octagonal shafts with moulded caps. Recessed and at right is a gabled wing which has a single-light window with Tudor hood mould. Right hand gable end: outshut to ground floor with 2-light window and 2-light attic window. Left hand end: 2 slight ground and attic windows. Rear: obscured by C20 additions including a projecting gabled wing at left. Interior: close studded walls, plain joists, encased beams to one ground floor room and chamfered ogee end stops and chamfered joists with die-out end stops. Massive hearths with chamfered bressumer. Winder staircase leading up to the first floor which has jowled wall posts. Wind bracing to the attic.
