Description
The stable block of Wherstead Park, dating from the late 18th century, has been restored and converted for use as offices, accommodation, and a village hall in 1976-1977. It is constructed of gault brick with ashlar dressings and features a slate roof. The central part of the building is a two-storey, three-bay coach house with pedimented outer bays, flanked by single-storey wings that originally had two bays and have been extended on both sides. The central double doors are set under a glazed round arch. The side bays project slightly forward and contain sash windows with glazing bars, which are set beneath flat gauged brick arches. A band runs along the first floor, which features six-pane sash windows. The building is topped with stepped pediments and a cupola that has clock faces and is crowned by a weathervane. The wings include twelve-pane sashes under flat gauged brick arches, with the central ones being a later addition. There is a lunette window in the extension to the right and entrances located at the rear. Photographs of the building are available in the National Monuments Record.
