Description
Birch Tree Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the 17th century, with a rear wing added in the 18th to 19th centuries. The front range is timber-framed, set on a brick plinth, and rendered, while the rear range is constructed of red brick. The roofs are covered with plain tiles and feature a brick stack. The building has a T-shaped plan, with the front range being a single storey and attic, designed with a three-bay central lobby-entry layout. It has a 20th-century door and casement windows, along with a steeply pitched swept roof that includes bargeboards and a central stack. The rear range is two storeys high and also has a 20th-century door and casement windows. Inside the front range, the ground sill and wall studding are exposed, and there is a chamfered spine beam and bressumer above the fireplace.
