Description
This barn, located approximately 20 meters northeast of Alpington Old Hall, dates from the 17th century and later. It features a combination of red brick and timber framing, with weatherboarded gables. The roof is steeply pitched and covered in corrugated asbestos sheeting. The west wall is made of red brick and has a large waggon entrance that is slightly off-centre, with inserted windows on either side of the entrance. The east wall retains some timber framing, which is mostly underbuilt in brick, and includes jowled posts that support arch-braced tie beams. The studwork has diagonal bracing, and the roof is a butt-purlin type that has undergone significant repairs. On the east side, there is a brick and pantile lean-to, while the north gable features a weatherboarded lean-to and a square honeycomb brick vent. The barn is included for its group value.
