Description

The cottage located approximately 80 meters southwest of Holly Lodge is an early 19th-century cottage ornee. It is built from coursed limestone blocks and features a hipped reed-thatched roof. The building is 1½ storeys high and was originally square in plan, though it has been extended to the north.

The south facade includes a loggia supported by four timber columns, each made up of four clustered shafts with square bases and capitals. The central ground floor and overhanging attic have 2-light casements with leaded glazing and elliptical headed lights. To the north, there is a 20th-century flat-roofed extension at the northwest corner, along with a small single-storey pantiled lean-to on the north wall. The thatched attic dormer has been blocked in brick.

A chimney stack is located on the north side of the ridge and features three linked octagonal red brick shafts. On the east side, there is a central doorway flanked by two quatrefoil lights, one of which has leaded glazing. The doorway is adorned with a re-set 16th-century four-centred stone arch under a square head, featuring foliage carving in the spandrels and set on a moulded polygonal capital. Above the doorway, there is a thatched dormer with its opening blocked, which contains two re-set sections of a vaulted canopied niche with crocketted pinnacles and an ogee headed arch, along with tall cusped arcading above, dating from the 14th century and of ecclesiastical provenance.
