Description

STOKE HOLY CROSS DUNSTON TG 20 SW 4/68 Barn 40m north-west of Dairy Farmhouse G.V. II 5 stead threashing barn. Circa 1740. Brick with pantiled roofs. One storey. East side of 6 bays separated by 7 stepped buttresses with vitrified headers. 2 full height symmetrically placed double timber doors. Bays without doorways have high rectangular honeycomb ventilation panels. Gabled roof. West side with 2 opposing gabled transepts, one with double timber doors, the other with a pedestrian door. Gable heads to transepts with much tumbling. Roof structure of ties on straight braces dropping to wall posts. Braces were originally arched, of which 2 remain. Principals and 2 tiers staggered butt purlins. Cambered collars.
