Description
The barn located 40 meters north of Moat Farmhouse is a Grade II listed structure dating from the late 17th century to early 18th century. It is timber framed, partly weatherboarded, and features brick nogging and plaster where it connects to later buildings. The barn has red brick parapet gable ends and a pantiled roof. It consists of five bays with a central cart entrance. The frame includes full-height oak studs and arched-bracing, with three of the four open trusses retaining their original bracing. The easternmost bay was originally floored and shows evidence of four-light diamond-mullioned windows on both floors, although only one mullion remains. The roof is intact, comprising nine bays with two rows of unstepped butt purlins and plank wind-bracing. The gable facing the road features a simple geometric design in raised brickwork within a square sunk panel. This barn is a well-preserved example of its period and is very similar to another barn located nearby at New House Farm, Weston.
