Description
Dormer Cottage is a pair of cottages that have been combined into one house, dating from the 18th century. The building features a timber frame set on a brick plinth, with infill made of colourwashed wattle and daub and flint. It has a pantiled roof and consists of one storey with a dormer attic. There are two doorways, with the one on the right located beneath a pedimented 20th-century hood. The ground floor has three casement windows that were added in 1972. The gabled roof is adorned with five gabled dormers, also featuring 1972 casements. A ridge stack is positioned to the left of the center, while the right bay is constructed of 19th-century brick and has a partly external end stack. The rear of the building includes a continuous puts hut of brick beneath a catslide roof, along with one gabled dormer.
Inside, the timber framing consists of thin scantling and widely spaced studs. There is a large fireplace on the north side that includes a domed bread oven. The corners under the wall plate are supported by arched braces, and the roof structure features tie beams on arched braces, principals, two tiers of butt purlins, and collars.
