Description
Dunston Hall is a country house that began construction in 1859 by J.C. Buckler, with work taken over by Edward Boardman in 1878. The building is made of brick with tiled roofs and showcases a massive high Victorian Elizabethan style. The north and south fronts are designed in an E plan and are similar in appearance, featuring three storeys and attics. Each main elevation consists of five bays, with the end and central bays projecting and gabled. The central bay is narrower but projects further than the others. Each projecting bay is adorned with octagonal corner turrets topped with tall ogeed finials made of terracotta, which are also present at the gable heads. The two recessed bays have narrow dormer gables treated similarly. The windows include 2, 3, 4, and 6-light stone cross casements with leaded panes and hood moulds. A moulded string course runs along the first floor, and the gabled roofs are complemented by numerous chimney stacks with circular ornate terracotta flues. The north front features a central stone doorway with a four-centred arch, moulded jambs, and carved spandrels. To the north-east, there are stables and a stable yard connected to the house by brick walls, designed in a similar style and using the same materials.
