Description
The building at the rear of Number 38 is a former skating rink, now used as a warehouse, dating from around 1877 with 20th-century lean-to additions. It is constructed of red brick with a slate roof and is a single storey in height. There are 20th-century entrances located in the north and south walls at the east end. The east gable retains 2 out of the 3 original windows, each featuring 2 tall 8-light semi-circular arched casements with radial glazing bars at the top. The windows on the long sides and the west gable, which also have similar semi-circular brick arches, have been blocked or altered. Inside, there is an impressive open timber roof with a single frame arched brace, featuring a collar and king-post in 6 full and 2 half end bays. The large curved braces spring from small brick wall piers and have struts, some of which are decorated with three-quarter round ends, connecting to the wall posts and rafters. Deep section side purlins support raking boards above cross bracing between the trusses.
