Description

The Wharf Cafe is a former warehouse, dating to the early 18th century, and later altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of brick, now rendered, and has a gabled and hipped concrete tile roof. The building has two storeys and originally featured a five-window range, with single-bay additions at each end. The central section has three three-light casement windows flanked by single two-light casement windows. An off-centre doorway, with side lights, is covered by a 20th-century lean-to porch. To the right are two doorways with sidelights, and to the left, a three-light casement, a two-light casement and a doorway. All openings are currently boarded up. The ground floor interior features chamfered oak beams supported on cast iron columns. The roof structure consists of three trusses with tiebeams and struts; the collar beams curve upwards and support a further strut to the ridge. Most of the staggered purlins and rafters are original.
