Description

1 and 2 The Cottage, Home Place is a pair of cottages built between 1903 and 1905 by E.S. Prior, located as part of the Home Place estate. The ground floor is constructed of flint with carstone dressings, while the first floor features white painted weatherboarding beneath a hipped pantile roof. The cottages have a three to four bay open east plan at the rear and rise to two storeys.

On the ground floor, there are three wide semi-circular carstone arches with deep recesses, with the center arch being wider and featuring two doors that have tile on-edge lintels, separated by a low forward wall. To the left and right of the center, there are late 20th-century steel framed casements. The first floor, which was rebuilt in the mid-20th century after a fire, has four steel framed casements and rises from behind a parapet of the ground floor.

The roof has cross stacks on the left and right of the ridge. The left and right returns mirror the front but consist of two bays, with two carstone arches on the ground floor and two windows on the first floor. At the rear angles, there are large external tapering stacks made of flint with carstone dressings and octagonal shafts of tiles. The Cottage faces the north-west entrance to the kitchen garden.
