Loggia Walls Piers And Steps South West Of Sunken Garden At Thornfield Residential Home For The Elderly Formerly Home Place

The loggia, walls, piers, and steps located south-west of the sunken garden at Thornfield Residential Home for the Elderly, formerly known as Home Place, were designed by E.S. Prior between 1903 and 1906. The loggia features flint construction with tile dressings, three piers made of tiles, and arches at either end. At the rear, there is a crinkle crankle wall also made of flint. Steps lead down to the south-east from the terrace above. Surrounding the patio to the north-west are five round piers made of flint with tile decoration, along with path steps and additional piers to the north. There is a semi-circular flight of stone steps descending to the west between carstone piers, which are topped by a high wall to the south that ends in a square carstone pier.
