Description
The loggia, walls, piers, and steps located to the north-east of the sunken garden at Thornfields Residential Home for the Elderly, formerly known as Home Place, were designed by E.S. Prior between 1903 and 1906. The loggia features flint construction with tile dressings, supported by three tile piers and flanked by arches at either end. Behind it, there are crinkle crankle walls made of flint. Steps lead down to the south-east from the terrace above. Surrounding the patio to the north-west are five round piers made of flint with tile decoration. A semi-circular flight of steps, situated between carstone piers, descends to the kitchen garden to the north-west.
