Description

The outbuilding range located to the northeast of North Barningham Hall is likely from the mid-17th century, with some later alterations and an early 19th-century stable. It probably served as kennels and a garderobe, constructed mainly of red and yellow brick in English bond, topped with a single-pitched pantile roof, part of which is missing. This single-storey building features a gable end with a triple-arched blind opening that has a hoodmould. The right side includes a series of low arched openings that have been altered or infilled, followed by two doorways and an additional blind arched recess that fronts the garderobe, which is a slightly later addition. On the end facing the former moat, there are two panels of five-arched ventilation loops, now blocked, with hoodmoulds above. The left side has a later doorway and various blocked or altered openings, including a panel similar to those on the moat side, which is partly obscured by the stable. The stable is constructed of flint with brick dressings and has a pantile roof, also single-storey, featuring doorway and lunette window openings. Inside the garderobe, there is a small blocked doorway with a four-centred arch. This building is a rare example of a 17th-century outbuilding used for keeping animals, likely dogs, and is notable for its incorporation of a garderobe.
