Description
The outbuildings in the outer stable yard to the south-west of Maer Hall are a group of structures that include a stable/coach house, a dovecote, and a building of uncertain function featuring top-lit pavilions. These buildings were likely constructed in the mid-to-late 19th century and have undergone some alterations. They are made of orange-red brick with sandstone ashlar dressings and have plain tiled roofs. The buildings are arranged around the outer courtyard of Maer Hall, located to the south of the stable block.
The stable/coach house features a central blind full-height arched recess, flanked by round-arched openings at the upper level and three-light 20th-century casements at the ground level. Access is provided through a 20th-century stable door in the central recess, with single-storey extensions on either side that have double doors.
The dovecote is square in shape and has a blind round-arched recess on the south-west side, with an entrance accessed through stable doors. It contains three rows of nesting boxes situated below the eaves and is topped with a pyramidal roof.
The building with top-lit pavilions is a long range, possibly a stable, aligned north-south and featuring square corner projections. This long range has two levels, with the square projections also on two levels but taller, topped with pyramidal roofs and glazed top-lit pavilions. The openings and fenestration consist primarily of mid-to-late 19th-century latticed casements, although some alterations have occurred, including a lean-to against the left square projection. The long range has two ventilated louvres and a wide flat-headed entrance on the ground floor to the right. These outbuildings are included for their group value.
