Description

The Smallburgh War Memorial is a First World War memorial, built around 1920, located in the churchyard of St Peter’s Church on Hall Road in Smallburgh, Norfolk. It is prominently placed in the northern part of the churchyard. The memorial consists of a stone obelisk with a moulded foot, set on a slightly tapering four-sided plinth that has a deep foot with a sloped cap, all resting on a square base and a concrete foundation. The plinth features inscriptions in leaded lettering. The inscription reads: "THIS MEMORIAL IS ERECTED TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN HONOUR OF THE MEN OF THIS PARISH WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN THE GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918 FOR GOD KING AND COUNTRY GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS// (NAMES)// (NAMES)// 1939 – 1945/ (NAMES)."
