Description
Cliff Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the mid to late 17th century. It has two storeys with attics and features a garden front that consists of two sections. The ground floor is made of coursed carstone with galleting, while the first floor is squared and coursed carstone with galleting, indicating that it was heightened and re-roofed in the 18th century. The house has brick dressings and a 20th-century red pantiled roof.
On the west side, there is a single ground floor three-light cross window casement in a narrowed 17th-century brick dressed opening, and a first floor single two-light casement with a large glazing bar in an original 17th-century brick dressed opening. There is also a blocked ground floor brick dressed fire window on the east side.
The main section of the house to the east has two storeys with attics. The ground floor features two three-light and one two-light arched headed casement windows, while the first floor has three two-light casements with single glazing bars, all inserted into original brick dressed openings. There is some isolated brick stitching on the ground floor indicating former openings, along with a blocked fire window on the west side. A 20th-century part glazed door is present, as well as two 20th-century gabled dormers with two-light casements.
A brick kneeler on the east side indicates the original height of the roof's springing. The house has brick coped parapets with one party wall and gable stacks at both the east and west ends. The elaborate gables on the east and west sides date from around 1700, with the west gable featuring carstone and chalk chequerwork with brick dressings and two blocked rectangular brick dressed windows. The rear has been re-roofed and includes a two-storey 19th-century outshut addition.
