Description

The School is a Grade II listed building dating from 1830, with an attached school that was also built in 1830 and enlarged in 1878. It features a small carstone facing with gault brick dressings and a pantile roof.

The school house has three bays and two storeys, with gable parapets and internal end stacks. The principal facade faces south and includes a central doorway with a four-centred arch, a hood mould, and a door that also has a four-centred head. The windows have Gothick headed lights, with three lights in the first and third bays, and two lights above the doorway, all featuring square hood moulds.

The school room, which is three bays wide and three bays deep, was built in 1850 and enlarged in 1878 with a two-bay link to the school house. The school is attached to the west gable of the school house and has a hipped roof. Its south facade consists of five bays, with a large single-storey gabled porch projecting from the third bay, which has a doorway on the left return. All windows feature four-centred arches; the windows in bays one to three have wide gault brick voussoirs, while those in bays four and five have stone hood moulds. The first bay has a single pointed light, the second bay has a double pointed light with a lozenge above, and all lights have vertical glazing bars. Bays three and five contain triple Gothick headed lights with intersecting tracery. The west return has three three-light Gothick openings similar to those in bays four and five of the south facade. The north facade of the school room features single, double, and single lights corresponding to the first two bays of the south facade. There is a porch at the angle of the school room and the link.
