Description
Well Hall is a house located approximately 1.2 kilometres north-north-west of the Church of St. Nicholas, dating from the early 18th century, likely built on an earlier structure. It is constructed of red brick with a concrete pantile roof and features gable parapets. The building has five bays, is two storeys high with an attic, and has additions at the rear. It has end internal stacks and a dogstooth cornice.
The ground floor includes a central doorway with a renewed oak door and a rectangular light above, sheltered by a flat canopy. There are four low recessed sash windows with glazing bars on the ground floor. The first floor has five flush sash windows with glazing bars, all set under cambered arches, and there are two inserted roof dormers. The returns display brick tumbling-in and an eaves platband, with the right return featuring some coloured headers and a blocked opening on the first floor to the right.
To the right return, there is a 19th-century two-storey, two-bay extension with two sash windows on the ground floor and two sash windows with glazing bars on the first floor. Additionally, there is a later one-and-a-half storey single-bay addition in gault brick, which has a doorway on the ground floor and a sash window above. The rear of the house has two-storey extensions under three gables, with the left gable made of brick and the centre and right gables constructed of carstone. The house is situated on the site of a Benedictine cell of the Abbey of St. Etienne from Caen, Normandy.
