Description
Nos. 20 and 20A on Northgate Street in Great Yarmouth are a shop and house with origins dating back to the late 16th century, although they were remodelled in the 20th century. The building is constructed of red brick, which has been rendered and whitewashed, and features a roof made of concrete tiles. It stands two storeys tall with an attic and has a two-window range. The facade includes a shaped gable that faces the road. The ground floor has a 20th-century shop front, while the first floor features two 2-light casements and one horned sash window in the attic, all without glazing bars. The shaped gable was rebuilt in the mid-20th century, and the gabled roof has a rendered stack on the north wall. The south side of the building has a return along Row 5, which includes a 20th-century door and one 2/2 horned sash window on each floor. A former yard to the west has been infilled with a two-storey 20th-century structure. Inside, the ground floor has an ovolo-moulded bridging beam, and the roof structure consists of principals and collars, although the collars have been removed.
