Description
14 and 15 Northgate Street is a pair of houses dating from the mid-18th century, with origins in the 17th century. They are constructed of red brick and topped with a roof of black-glazed pantiles. The buildings are three storeys high and feature a five-window range.
At the center, there are two six-panelled doors with fanlights; the fanlight above No. 14 has four vanes, while No. 15 has six vanes. The doors are framed by reeded doorcases with block entablatures and a hood. On either side of the doors, there are two 2/2 horned sash windows, each set under finely-gauged skewback arches. The first floor has five similar sash windows, and the second floor also has five 2/2 horned sash windows. A moulded eaves cornice runs along the top of the buildings. The gabled roof has bell-based features and includes internal gable-end stacks on both the north and south sides.
The rear elevation of No. 14 is colourwashed and features two full-height gabled ranges, while No. 15 has a single gabled range that has been rebuilt and includes a truncated gable-end stack. The interior has not been inspected.
