Description
The Paddock, which includes the front wall and stables, is a house dating from the early 19th century, with a rear extension added in the late 19th century. It is constructed of gault brick, featuring a painted brick facade and yellow brick extensions at the rear. The front range has a roof covered in black-glazed pantiles, while the rear is topped with concrete corrugated tiles. The two-storey facade has three bays, which are separated by four pilasters that rise to flat cushion capitals. There is a central square porch, with a recessed sash window on either side, each having 6/6 glazing bars. The first floor has three similar sash windows. The house has a gabled roof with internal gable-end stacks. To the right, there is a subsidiary entrance bay with a 6/6 sash window and a 3/3 sash window above it. The rear features two full-height canted bays, with the northern bay projecting and both having hipped roofs.
The front wall consists of flint, re-used ashlar, and brick, extending south-east down Ford Street, topped with a gault brick band and coping. The entrance to the stable yard is marked by two gault brick piers with recessed panels. The stables are integrated into the wall and are two storeys high. The north-west facade of the stables has two recessed round arches, one containing a window and the other a plank door with an overlight. There is a roundel in the gable head, and the stables have a gabled roof covered with pantiles. The roof structure is noted to have A-frame trusses and purlins. The interior has not been inspected.
