Description
No. 10 on Old Market Street is a pair of houses dating from the late 18th century, which were converted into four flats in the late 20th century. The exterior is constructed of flint with gault brick dressings and a gault brick facade, topped with roofs made of black-glazed pantiles. The building has two storeys and a dormer attic.
On the ground floor, there are three 8/8 sash windows, with the rightmost window lacking horns. To the right side of the elevation, there is a six-panelled door that opens into what was formerly No. 8. This door features a metope block entablature and an open pediment above, along with a three-vaned fanlight. To the left, which was formerly No. 10, there is an early 19th-century serpentine shop front. This includes a glazed door to the left of a bowed display window, which has eight by four glazing bars. The doorway is framed by a fluted architrave and a plain frieze above.
On the first floor, there are four 8/8 sash windows, one of which has horns. All the sash windows are topped with gauged skewback arches. The building features a dentil eaves cornice and a shallow parapet, with a gabled roof that has two pitches and two flat-topped dormers. There is also a rebuilt internal gable-end stack on the north-west side. The interior has not been inspected.
