Description

The Dolphin Inn is a public house dated 1694. It is constructed of flint, ashlar, and brick, with the ashlar blocks laid in checker patterns. The building has pantiled roofs. The main section has two storeys and three bays, featuring a plinth course with moulded red brick coping, and a moulded red brick platband between the floors. The central entrance is a four-panelled door sheltered by a hood with a two-light casement window on either side. The ground floor also has two two-light cross casement windows, while the first floor has two similar casements separated by a two-light mullioned window. The date 1694 is picked out in stone at first-floor level. A gabled roof is topped by a central stack. A two-storey rear cross wing has two-light casements and one sash window. It also has a gabled pantile roof. Inside, the west ground-floor room contains a bridging beam with sunk-quadrant moulded detail. The east ground-floor room features a rebuilt corner fireplace.
