Description

King's Field Cottages is a row of four dwellings, likely originally a barn, dating from the 17th century. The building was converted and refronted in the late 18th century and has been altered in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick with some timber framing and part weatherboarding, topped with a tiled roof. The cottages are two storeys high, featuring a four-window front and four entrances. The two entrances on the left have plank doors with gabled hoods, while the two on the right have later gabled porches. The ground floor has three-light casements with cambered heads, some of which include 20th-century leaded lights. The first floor also has three-light casements and a central stone in a moulded panel inscribed "King's Field Cottages." There is a moulded brick course at the eaves. The building has a central cross axial stack and external end stacks with offsets. The gable ends are rendered and weatherboarded. At the rear, there is weatherboarding over the rendered ground floor, two and three-light casements, and two gabled dormers. There is a lean-to outshut at the rear and a one-storey outbuilding attached to the right. Inside, there is a clasped purlin roof with windbraces. To the left, there is a late 20th-century extension that is not of special interest.
