Description

Pound Cottage is a house dating from the mid to late 17th century, with alterations and an extension from the 20th century. The original structure is timber-framed with whitewashed brick infill and weatherboarding, with a later brick extension incorporating mock timber framing. It has a tiled roof. The original two-bay range is located to the left and has a gable facing the front. Exposed timber framing is visible, some of it renewed, and features include a jowled post, a cambered tie beam, and struts that clasp the purlins. The front bay of the left return shows exposed framing with passing braces. The rear bay is weatherboarded. There are 2-light, 20th-century leaded casement windows. A projecting 20th-century entrance porch has been added to the right, along with similar 3- and 4-light casement windows. The roof has a taller ridge, hipped to the left over the original range, and half-hipped to the right with an outshut. The interior has not been inspected.
