Description

Rose Hill Farmhouse is a house dating from the late 17th century, which was remodelled and extended in the late 18th or early 19th century, with alterations made in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick, retaining some older timber-framed walling, and includes areas of cement rendering. The house features tiled roofs and has two storeys with a basement.

The front has three windows, with a central entrance flanked by tripartite sash windows that have gauged brick flat arched heads. There is a high plinth that rises to the sill level of the windows. The first floor has flush frame glazing bar sashes, also with gauged brick flat arched heads, and the eaves are close to the hipped roof.

On the left end of the building, there is an original external stack with multiple offsets, while the right end has an external stack with flanking sashes on the ground floor and a sash window towards the rear on the first floor. The entrance is located in a projecting rear addition. The rear elevation features two projecting additions, each with a double gable; the left one projects further and includes a ground floor entrance and a small sash window, along with two first floor glazing bar sashes. The right projection has a lean-to outshut with a sash window.

Attached to the left side of the farmhouse is a one-storey outbuilding with a flint and brick front and a weatherboarded rear. The interior was undergoing thorough refurbishment at the time of inspection and includes queen struts and a collar clasped purlin roof.
