Description

Walnut Cottage and Lonmay are a house, now divided into two dwellings, dating to the late 17th century, with a 20th-century extension. The structure is primarily red brick, with some timber framing. The roof is tiled. The original plan was a broad two-cell lobby entry design. The house is two storeys high, and features a 20th-century gabled brick porch. The front elevation has timber casement windows: three lights with cambered heads on the ground floor, and two lights on the first floor. A central ridge stack is present. The gable end brick walls have straight joints. A two-light casement window is visible in the right gable. A single-story 20th-century extension is situated to the right, providing an entrance to Lonmay. A two-story, two-bay 20th-century extension extends to the left, with a slightly lower ridge. The rear elevation displays exposed timber rails, posts, and studs, along with scattered two-light casement windows, an entrance, and one gabled dormer. Inside, angled struts clasp the purlins.
