Description
1, 2, and 3 The Dell comprise a picturesque group of three houses. The core of the buildings dates to the late 17th century, with later alterations and additions in the 18th and 19th centuries, and a gabled extension to number 1 in 1984. The houses are timber-framed and originally clad in red brick, with parts of number 3 dating to the 18th century and numbers 1 and 2 re-clad in the 19th century. A flint gable is visible on the rear extension of number 1, while number 2 has a roughcast north gable and number 3 has a brick-nogged timber-frame south gable and a single-storey dark weatherboarded south extension. All buildings feature old red tile roofs.
Numbers 1 and 2, which are taller than number 3, face west with a north gable to the road. They have segmental arches above their small-pane casement windows, with two windows on each floor. Each has a central six-panel door. A gable chimney is present on the left-hand side, and a rear lateral stack on the right-hand side of number 2. Number 3, to the south, has an 18th-century brick facade, a dentilled eaves course, three upper windows, and a central door below. It has small two-light casement windows with segmental arches on the ground floor, and a plank door. The single-storey weatherboarded south extension has a large chimney against the end of the house and a triangular oriel window. Interior walls demonstrate slender timber framing.
