Description

Old Swan House is a house, which was formerly an inn. It dates back to the 17th century and was altered and extended in the 18th century. It operated as The Swan public house in the 19th century and has been a house since 1914, with alterations made in 1922. The exterior is roughcast, with steep, lipped old red tile roofs. The house is L-shaped, with a two-storey section facing west and a long, northeast rear wing. It has two large external rear wall chimneys. The west front has dentilled eaves and a timber-framed, gabled, tiled porch in the south part, containing a six-panel door. The windows are flush casements with metal frames. A very large, old external rear chimney features tiled offsets and an 18th-century added shaft for a first-floor fireplace. The northeast wing has two flush casement windows with small panes and pointed lights, and a lean-to is located on the south side of the angle. The interior of the west range reveals a timber frame. A white swan serves as a weather vane on the west range.
