Description

This is an early 19th-century terrace of houses, numbered 9 to 19 College Street. The terrace consists of eleven houses, each two storeys high with a sunken basement, and featuring two windows. The houses are constructed of red brick with a low-pitched slate roof and an exposed eaves soffit. The windows are sash windows with glazing bars, set within stucco-lined reveals, and have gauged, flat brick arches above them. The ground-floor windows are complemented by a wood bracketed cornice, which may be a later addition. Each house has a pair of doors with side lights. Nos. 9 to 15 have deep, flat canopies supported on wooden brackets. Nos. 13 and 15 feature a trellised porch with a swept canopy. A distinctive feature is the group of four octagonal chimney shafts visible on each house. The terrace, together with Nos. 1 to 27A (odd) on the south side of College Street, is considered to form a unified group.
