Description
Ranshaws Almshouses, built in 1846, is a row of three almshouses that stands two storeys high and features four windows. The three doors are symmetrically placed between the windows on the ground floor. The building is constructed of red brick, decorated with diamond patterns of blue headers, and has a cement rendered plinth. It has a moderately low pitched slate roof with eaves soffit and four chimney stacks with diagonal shafts. The windows are three-light casements with stone mullions and glazing bars that create small panes. There are stone hoodmoulds above the ground floor windows and doors. The central door is set in a slightly projecting gabled bay with a pointed arch and stone coping. A plaque at the centre of the first floor reads: "Ranshaw's Charity 1846".
