Description

The front screen wall at Wheathampstead House is a mid to late 19th-century structure made of red brick with terracotta ornamentation. It stands about 5 metres high and stretches approximately 50 metres long. The wall features a continuous moulded coping and ornamental balustrading, all crafted from terracotta. It curves inward on both sides of an impressive gateway, which includes a double gate with an elliptical arch and single side gates with round arches. There is a fluted impost course above the gates. The terminal piers are topped with pedestals and vases. The original wooden gates each have six fielded panels. This wall serves as an important focal point at the north end of the town.
