Public House. C16 timber frame. C17-18 additions. C20 rear extensions. Exposed box framing with plaster infill. Steep pitched plain tile roofs. 2 storeys. Long curving facade, bending away from road on N above the River Lea, the latter section apparently later C17 and C18, and formerly separate cottages. Main block has red brick plinth and tall C17 chimney stack to centre and N end, the latter joined with a tumbled brick gable end. 6 bays of framing. Glazing bar casements. 1 early C19 door near S with architrave frame and But bracket hood. Large rear cross wing at S end with a tall C17 red brick lateral chimney stack on the N wall. To the rear centre of the main block is a small 2-storey gabled extension with clasped purlin roof, probably late C17. The N extensions have glazing bar casements and tall red brick bases. Some exposed C18 framing at NE end.
