Description

No 23 High Street is a house and shop that likely dates back to the 16th century. It features a timber frame with a late 18th-century front made of painted red brick. The building has a steeply pitched plain tile roof with an internal 18th-century chimney stack at the north gable end. It is two storeys tall, with the first floor displaying outer triple-hung sash windows and a central single sash window. The door below is framed with an architrave and has a flat hood supported by cut brackets. There are also 19th and 20th-century box shop windows. Inside, the south side has a lower ceiling, which may indicate the presence of a former cross wing.
