Description

The Maltings is a building that originally served as maltings and is now a restaurant. It dates from the 16th to 17th centuries and features a timber frame with red brick infill added between the 18th and 20th centuries. The roof is covered with plain tiles and the building has one to two storeys. On the west side, there are two 18th-century lateral chimney stacks and a restored gable cross wing from the same period. The east side has two first-floor windows that may be in their original openings, along with some tile hanging. At the eastern end, there is a 20th-century gabled front extension and 20th-century leaded casements. The rear elevation is a mix of weatherboarding and red brick. The building is included for its group value in the centre of town.
