Description

The former stable and granary range attached to the barn at Praewood Farm dates from the late 18th century or early 19th century, with some later alterations. It is constructed of flint with brick dressings and features a Welsh slate roof. The building is one storey high and consists of five bays arranged as 3, 1, 1. The ends and openings have brick quoins, with red brick arches and stepped eaves.

At the left end, there is a former stable that has a wide central stable door flanked by segmental-headed windows, which feature brick voussoirs and small-pane wooden windows. Bay 4 includes a wide three-light window, while bay 5, designated as the granary bay, is blind but has a small round archway at ground level, possibly serving as an air vent or cat hole. The wall at the left end does not completely abut the barn.

On the rear side, there is a doorway into the second bay and brick vents. The right return features a granary doorway set above ground level. Inside, the stable end is designed for five animals, with tethering arrangements of 2, 1, 2, and includes wooden partitions and mangers. The granary section has a raised board floor and plastered walls. The roof is supported by short queen struts on tie-beams, clasped purlins, old rafters, and a fairly large-scantling ridge piece.
