TL 10 NW HEMEL HEMPSTEAD ROAD (NORTH SIDE, OFF) 23/326 Former stable and granary range attached to barn at Praewood Farm

Former stable and granary range. Late C18 or early C19 with later alterations. Flint with brick dressings; Welsh slate roof. One storey; 5 bays, 3, 1, 1. Brick quoins at ends and to openings; red brick arches and stepped eaves. At left end is former stable having wide central stable door flanked by segmental-headed windows with brick voussoirs and small-pane wooden windows. Bay 4 has wide 3-light window. Bay 5 (granary bay) is blind, but has small round-archway at ground level (possible for air vent or cat hole?) Wall at left end does not fully abut barn (qv). Rear: doorway into 2nd bay; and brick vents. Right return: granary doorway set above ground level. Interior: stable end has provision for 5 beasts, tethered 2, 1, 2, with wooden/partitions and mangers. Granary section has raised board floor and plastered walls. Roof has short queen struts on tie-beams, clasped purlins, old rafters supporting boarded roof, and fairly large-scantling ridge piece.
