Description
This building is a stable and granary, now used as a cowhouse, located about 50 yards south-west of Grange Farmhouse. It likely dates from the late 18th century to early 19th century and is constructed of sandstone rubble with a Welsh slate roof. The structure has nine structural bays arranged in a north-east to south-west orientation and consists of two levels.
The west elevation facing the farmyard features one two-light window on the left side of the upper level, seven vent slits, and two blocked slits at the bottom of the upper floor. The ground floor has four evenly spaced two-light windows, a square-headed doorway to the right of center, and another doorway with a segmental arch to the right. There is a two-bay full-height extension from the 19th century on the right-hand side.
On the north gable, there are two segmentally headed doors, both with ledged doors; one is located on the ground floor to the right, and the other is to the left of center at the top of stone stairs that rise from the east. Beneath the stairs, there is a kennel. Inside, the building features collar trusses and significant portions of oak troughs and racks. This building is included for its group value with nearby structures.
