Description
This building is a cowhouse, granary, and stable dating from the 18th century, located about 20 yards north-north-west of Benhall. It is constructed from sandstone rubble and features roofs made of Welsh slate and corrugated asbestos. The structure has a rectangular plan, oriented roughly east to west, with a five-bay cowhouse/granary on the west side and a three-bay stable on the east side.
The building has two levels. The south elevation displays regular openings, with the higher cowhouse/granary section on the left. This section has three upper-level windows, each with two lights, and three entries with cambered heads, flanked by small vent loops and deep verges. The stable section features a central two-light glazing bar casement, flanked by a pair of vent loops, and has one two-light window on each side of the central stable door. All three ground floor openings in the stable have cambered heads. On the right-hand side, there is a lean-to with a doorway and a two-light window.
The west gable includes tallet stairs that rise from the south to a ledged door, above which are nesting boxes. Inside, each truss collar is supported from the tie-beam by two widely spaced posts. A curved brace bears on the tie-beam, and the underside of the principal is pegged to each post but not to the tie-beam.
