Description
Darrowfield House, located on St Michael's Street, is the former Dower House of Gorhambury, also known as "New House". It dates from around 1700 and is built over two storeys with an attic, featuring five windows. The house has a high pitched, hipped tiled roof with end chimneys and a renewed modillion cornice topped with a small central pediment. There are three square dormers on the roof. The exterior is constructed of red brick with a diaper pattern of blue headers and includes a brick plinth. The ground floor windows have gauged red brick arches, and all windows are renewed sashes with glazing bars; those on the first floor are set in original, near-flush box frames. To the left, there is a two-storey, three-window extension designed in a similar style. The late 18th-century central doorcase features a fluted frieze supported by carved, scrolled consoles above flat pilasters, with paterae over brackets, dentils, and modillions on the cornice. The door is topped with a cornice head and a decorative fanlight with a fan pattern in the spandrels.
