Description

The granary and attached stable range at Llwynmawr Farm is a small raised granary dating from the 18th century. It features a cruck-framed front, while the side and rear walls are made of rubble stone. The gabled roof is covered with early 21st-century corrugated steel sheeting. At the rear, there is a single-storey lean-to, which adjoins a later stable range.

The cruck-framed front of the granary is raised, supported by a substantial sill beam on a central timber post. The bases of the crucks finish at the granary floor level and are supported by the masonry side walls. The front elevation includes a central planked door with a triangular head that is cut into the tie beam. There are wattle and daub infill panels, with weather-boarding to the right of the door. This elevation is set back and features a balcony made of steel and wood, which is currently in poor condition. Access to the balcony is via a flight of stone steps on the right, bounded by a wall that was rebuilt in the early 21st century. There is an open storage area beneath the granary, and a possible external flue on the eastern side of the range, reduced to eaves level. A lean-to corrugated steel canopy extends over a storage area to the west, and there is a small blocked opening in the original western wall.

The northern gable of the granary has an unglazed two-light wooden window with shutters, and beneath it is a lean-to with a slightly swept slate roof and two small skylights. There are split doors at the center, with a planked door and a small window on the western return. To the left of the granary is the stable range, which has a loft and is constructed of stone with a corrugated steel roof. The stable features a central door under a segmental arch made of stone voussoirs, with small wooden two-light openings flanking it and three ventilation slits above. The stable was later extended to the left, adding a second doorway with a timber lintel and a two-light opening to its left, along with a ventilation slit above. The eastern gable has two ventilation slits, and the rear of the stable range includes two loft hatch openings, with a slate roof on the original part. In the left angle, there is a fragment of wall with a corrugated steel roof relating to an earlier structure.

There was no access to the interior at the time of inspection.
