Description

Llwynmawr Farmhouse is a symmetrical, two-storey, two-window house constructed in the 1840s. It is built of dressed, randomly laid stone with large quoins, and has a slate roof with stone end stacks to the east and an external stack to the west. The north-facing front has a replaced panelled front door set centrally within a gabled wooden porch with red brick side walls that have a bullnose front. Eight-over-eight-pane hornless sash windows are flush to the front, with wedge lintels and stone sills. A slate roundel within a square border, reading “E/TM/1845,” is positioned above the porch. A pebble path, laid out in a diaper pattern of white and grey pebbles, leads to the front entrance.

The east gable end features a rear doorway offset to the left, accessible through a small, 20th-century lean-to timber conservatory with a planked door under an arched head of stone voussoirs and a small window above. The rear elevation has two windows, both with segmental-arched heads of stone voussoirs, with casement windows on the upper storey and 20th-century wooden windows below.

The front door opens to a central staircase with a living room to the right; the stair-hall appears to have been partitioned off originally. The living room retains a large stop-chamfered cross-beam from an earlier house, along with small joists. A fireplace is located at the west end, featuring a large cambered timber lintel and a later fireplace surround. To the left of the staircase, a partition wall contains a panelled door, leading to a reception room that is not accessible, with a kitchen behind it.

This building has group value due to its contribution to the area’s architectural heritage.
