Description
Manor Garden House is a 17th-century house that has undergone later improvements. It features a high-pitched, hipped, double-sport tiled roof with hipped ends on the north side, which faces the street. The house has two storeys and four windows. The eaves are coved and supported by slender brackets. The front is plastered with decorative pargetting and has a rendered plinth. The first floor has early 18th-century sash windows with thick glazing bars in slightly projecting, moulded frames. The ground floor includes late 17th-century windows with wooden mullions and transoms, along with leaded casements. The entrance has a doorcase with plain pilasters and a moulded cornice hood, leading to a door with six fielded panels set in a panelled reveal.
The south side, or garden front, is an early 18th-century addition with two storeys and four windows, built of pink brick with red brick dressings. Giant pilasters on either side support a moulded brick dentil cornice and parapet. The sash windows here also feature glazing bars in nearly flush box frames, set under gauged, segmental brick arches with white keystones. There is a brick plinth with moulded coping.
Inside, there are two rear rooms with early 18th-century panelling and a glazed corner cupboard. The front room has a wide, open fireplace beneath a stone, Tudor-shaped arch. The staircase is panelled and features fluted, quasi-Ionic columns, with 17th-century panelling in the first-floor rooms.
